This is pretty bad news for teachers but it will only get worse. So many states are having huge budget problems and they will cut back on teachers and have larger class sizes. In addition to the states mentioned, Washington state has had big layoffs (in the thousands) and Arizona also has had many.

UPDATE:

Anyone who's interested in acquiring a boat might want to check out the following wesbite (thanks Tony M!):

Wooden Boat Rescue Foundation
http://www.woodenboatrescue.org/

From their home page:

The Wooden Boat Rescue Foundation is dedicated to placement, saving, locating, researching, wishing, learning and dreaming of wooden boats. All boats are free.

Just remember. When viewing the listings, boats belonging to the type "dingy" are no longer available.

Happy hunting, and I hope to see you on the water soon!

Thanks for the comment Einstein.

"Those who played key roles in the mismanagement of the country, namely the GWB gang of this decade, deserve their share of the punishment. "

For me, the political protagonists were from both sides of the aisle--- Democrats and Republicans.

"But there are millions of regulars folks, the 10% unemployed presently, who are paying far more than their share of the reckoning. A profound lesson must be learned."

Too bad there isn't a less painful way.

Some 1.5 years ago, I along with some down-to-Earth people blogged all over about the forthcoming disaster, that multiple bubbles built up over the years will de-leverage one by one until there is no blood left. Of course we were roundly criticized as beyond doom. We were told by some famous biz honchos as 'hopelessly insane socialists'.

Things have turned out to be worse than I predicted. Because although I can only analyze irresponsible economic bubbles, I cannot do same on the inept responses, nor the degree of bailout given to those who caused the malaise. If there is one thing I learned, it is that no amount of 'socialism' can fix a capitalism that has been profoundly corrupted by politics and ideological dogmas. This truly the Great Reckoning, not only of economic mismanagement but geo-political hubris. Those who played key roles in the mismanagement of the country, namely the GWB gang of this decade, deserve their share of the punishment. But there are millions of regulars folks, the 10% unemployed presently, who are paying far more than their share of the reckoning. A profound lesson must be learned.
