Robert Shiller, Yale economics professor and chief economist at MacroMarkets, had the following to say about long-term U.S. home prices in an interview on Yahoo! Finance’s Tech Ticker last week:

In fact, home prices in the United States, if you correct for inflation, in 1990 were about the same as they were in 1890.

Front page article in today’s (Sept. 10) Seattle times says that housing prices are back to 2006 levels.
In crash-proof Seattle, mind you!
At this rate, in another 5 years housing in this area may become affordable for J6P to buy a house with a traditional 20% home loan…
